The great demand for knitted products, coupled with the huge impact of digital technologies in every sectors, are expected to further increase the availability of innovations that can be applied in knitting technologies. In this series of reports, WTiN will provide information about knitting technologies challenges and innovations that are applied in performance textile applications.

Here, in Part I of the report, an introduction to the knitted products and the categories of users of theses products is given. This will lead to a discussion of factors affecting knitting quality such as fibre type, yarn properties, fabric structures and additional treatments that can be applied, along with briefly describing types and elements of knitting machines.  

In Part II of this report, available technologies such as spacer fabrics, compression fabrics, seamless garments as well as other technologies related to digitisation and networking in knitted products manufacturing will be covered. This will be complemented by a non-exhaustive list of commercially available innovative technologies related to knitted performance wear as well as few recent innovation examples from academic world.
