Part I: The focus of this report is an explanation of the initial concept of mass customisation and the journey to its importance in today’s society. The concept of mass customisation and its associated business model are supported by the arrival of innovative micro-factories, designed to enable customers engage with the creation of their garment from the beginning, by designing it, purchasing it and then receiving it.

Part II: This report looks at emerging and innovative technologies, either commercialised or described in published patents, to support the development of mass customisation. Readers of this technical report should expect to gain an understanding of how these technologies will fit into their supply chain, and also how they may, or may not, financially impact their businesses.
