Tesco is planning to pilot digital product passports (DPPs) across its clothing range to meet the European Union’s (EU’s) upcoming requirements for more supply chain transparency.
The retailer has applied DPPs to each item in its F&F fashion range, providing shoppers with information about the products, including where the materials were sourced, according to a report by The Telegraph.
The rollout of DPPs – in line with new EU regulation – is set for 2026 onwards and is designed to boost supply chain transparency by forcing companies across the eurozone to introduce the passports.
Businesses, selling everything from furniture to fashion, will have to provide detailed information on the materials used in their products and their environmental impact. See WTiN’s deep dive into what this means for the textile industry, for further information.
The move follows in the footsteps of other brands, such as M&S-backed Nobody’s Child, which introduced DPPs in March this year, to strengthen its commitment to sustainability and transparency.
