Based in San Francisco, Allbirds is a sustainable footwear, apparel and accessories company co-founded by Tim Brown and Joey Zwillinger.
In 2014, Brown received a research grant from the New Zealand wool industry to develop a wool trainer. This led to a partnership with Zwillinger, a biotech engineer, to further develop the sneakers and officially launch Allbirds in March 2016.
As a public benefit corporation and certified B Corp, Allbirds strives to balance purpose and profit by considering the impact of its decisions on workers, customers, suppliers, the community and the environment. From the beginning, Allbirds aimed to “create things in a better way” – a mission that is reflected in its innovative use of sustainable materials throughout its collections.
In 2024, Allbirds announced that Joe Vernachio, the company’s former chief operating officer (COO), will replace Joey Zwillinger as chief executive officer (CEO) [1]. However, Zwillinger will stay on the board of directors and continue as a special advisor to Allbirds.
