Overview
Title: Combatting DPP counterfeits in textiles & apparel with AI
Date: Tuesday 25 June 2024
Duration: 36 minutes
Summary
Counterfeited and greenwashed data runs rampant in the textile & apparel industry due to the analogue nature of sustainable materials reporting. Upcoming digital product passport (DPP) rollouts from the European Commission’s Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR) could exacerbate this issue, says Alessandro Canepa, author and coordinator of the European Commission’s Horizon 2020 project, TRICK, focused on product data traceability and information management. Working with the Italian Customs, Canepa aims to fight green data counterfeiting through the adoption of blockchain to track all value chain tiers and artificial intelligence (AI) to spot suspicious activities in DPPs and the supply chain. This presentation will explore Canepa’s work in this field and the positive impact of blockchain and AI.
Speaker: Alessandro Canepa, Research & Development Manager, Fratelli Piacenza S.P.A.
