
China’s ministry of commerce has announced retaliatory tariffs on US goods, while stock markets plunge.
China has announced it will impose a 34% tariff on all goods imported from the US, starting next Thursday (10 April), matching the “Liberation Day” levy imposed by US president Donald Trump.
This comes after the US president announced a minimum of 10% on all imports into the US on Thursday (3 April), with a custom rate imposed on countries Trump said were the worst offenders for trade imbalances with the US.
China was included in these countries, with Washington issuing a 34% tariff, adding to the previous 20% tariffs against Chinese goods, bringing the total to 54%.
