RE&UP Recycling Technologies has partnered with Italian-based international spinning group Marchi & Fildi to co-develop a new generation of premium recycled cotton yarns.

Headquartered in the Netherlands, RE&UP is a circular technology company that intends to reshape the traditional textile-to-textile paradigm. Together with Marchi & Fildi, RE&UP believes recycled yarns should be both a sustainable option and a performance-driven choice.

Marco Lucietti, head of global marketing and communications at RE&UP, told WTiN: “The opportunity [for this ambition] is huge, especially as brands are under more pressure to meet circularity targets without compromising on quality.”

According to RE&UP, over 100m tonnes of textile waste was generated in 2023 alone. Of this, only 1% was recycled. Close to 90% was sent to landfill or burnt. And According to the European Union (EU), just in Europe, more than 12kg of textile waste is generated per person annually, with discarded clothes and home textiles from consumers accounting for approximately 85% of the total waste, which accounts to approximately 5m tonnes.
